The Avaya S8730 Media Server is equipped with an AMD Dual Core 2.4 GHz Opteron processor, 4 GB of memory, and a 72 GB SAS hard disk drive. Integrated network connectivity and multiple expansion options provide the interfaces required for system control, administration, maintenance, and supported Communication Manager services.

When used with Communication Manager and an appropriate media processor, including the T2302AP or TN2602AP, the S8730 supports transport of fax, Teletypewriter device (TTY), and modem calls using pass-through mode. It also supports fax, V.32 modem, and TTY calls using the supported proprietary relay mode.
The S8730 also provides redundancy options for environments where system availability is important. Software duplication is supported, while hardware duplication can be implemented with the optional DAL2 memory duplication card. An optional redundant power supply and RAID 1 configuration provide additional hardware options for supported installations.
